Sweet Sixteen Party Guide
For many girls, having a formal sweet sixteen party is becoming increasingly popular in the UK. If you are planning a sweet sixteen party this guide that will help you to make it a day to remember.

Deciding on a date and time for the Sweet 16 birthday party: Depending on when the actual birthday is, scheduling a date and time for the party can be a challenge. Consider holidays that may keep friends and family away. Find out if anyone else is planning an event during that time and take it into consideration. You can choose between the weekend before, and the weekend after the actual birthday, any day of the weekend from Friday to Sunday, and between an afternoon or evening event.
Deciding on a venue for the Sweet 16 birthday party: This party is a large event in a girl's life so try to be creative when it comes to picking a location for the sweet sixteen party. Besides the usual party hall, which you can get for a bargain if you can be flexible with the time and date, you can choose many other places. Consider using your home and garden (rent a tent), a church banquet hall, a local park, community center, or restaurant. You can also call your local parks and recreation office to find out about little-known facilities that may be in your community.
Who and how many people to invite: Some birthday girls want a big party, some want a small. Take into account your budget and the girl's personality. If she is normally shy, do not invite everyone she knows and the entire family. If she is outgoing, you need to invite more than a few close relatives and her best girlfriends.
Sweet 16 Invitations: Once you know when, where, and how many to invite, you need to purchase or make invitations. Making the invitations will save a lot of money, and unless it is a surprise party, it is something the birthday girl could do. You don't have to be an artist to make quality invitations, just do something that suits the birthday girl's personality. It can be as simple as a note, or as intricate as an invitation with calligraphy and cut-outs. Make sure you request RSVP's as soon as possible in the invitations
Theme: Picking a theme for the party will make the party more memorable, and perhaps more fun. Be creative, be outrageous, request the guest wear a theme-appropriate outfit, or change of clothes for the optional second half of the party. Just make sure you get permission from the birthday girl so the sweet 16 party themes are things she approves of for her party! Let the birthday girl dictate part of how the sweet sixteen party decorations will be chosen.
Scheduling the details of the party: When will you dance, when will you eat, and how long do you wait for guests to arrive before you get started? Do not leave the details of the party up to chance - the most important part of the sweet sixteen party are not the ideas, but the planning.

Food: This is where the budget counts most. Almost anything is acceptable from a seated catered event to a home-cooked buffet, or just finger foods. You just need to be sure the kind and style of food served, and the way it is served flows well with the party. If you plan a menu with a homemade buffet, you will want to do a more casual party, perhaps in the afternoon.
Dancing: It is a party after all. Make sure you set aside some time for dancing. If you choose, you can keep it formal, or you can do a mixture of formal and popular dance music.
Ending it: Don't schedule the party from 5 pm until... Set a closing time for the party and include it in the invitations. The longer the party goes on, the more it will cost, and the bigger chance you will have of something not going according to plan.

TOP 5 MINX PROM TIPS
Attending your prom is a memorable experience. Who you go with and what you wear are not the only important decisions that need to be made in advance. The evening needs to be planned from beginning to end.
1.) Be open minded!
When it comes to finding your perfect dress, try anything and everything. Even if it doesn’t look much on the hanger, give it a go – that will be that dress that you fall in love with as soon as you put it on! Make sure you feel 110% in it. If you have something niggling at you in the changing rooms, that will only be magnified on the night. So get looking for your dress as early as possible to give you the best choice. Keep in mind evening wear tends to be cut smaller than high street sizes, so be flexible and try on different sizes to get the best fit to flatter your shape.
2.) Get organised!
Book all your appointments well in advance. Having a trial run is often a good idea so that your hairdresser can spend time getting the look you want. A lot of salons have great deals on during prom. So why not take advantage and get the whole lot done! Nails, hair and make up! Try to wear a buttoned shirt or scoop neck line when getting your hair done – it makes it a lot easier to get your dress on without ruining you up-do!
3.) Arrive in style
When it comes to your entrance anything goes, with a little bit of imagination and originality you are sure to be the centre of attention. Getting a group of friends together can be a good way to keep costs down. A few great ideas the Minx team have seen are: Horse and carriage, tractor, motor bike, a red double decker bus, sports car, even a transit van done up like a float! You don’t have to spend a lot to be remembered. Take a look though our gallery for pictures and inspiration.
4.) Accessories
So now you have your dream dress, you’ve got to get the right accessories to complete the look. Co-ordinating your accessories is critical, so a universal colour such as silver is a great choice for most jewellery, shoes and bags. They will go with everything!!! Be sensible when choosing the height and style of your shoes. Remember that you will be wearing them all night so you have to be comfortable. Wear them around the house for a few weeks before your prom to be sure they’re not going to rub. If you have a silk or delicate material gown, be careful that your jewellery, bracelets and bags aren’t going to cause the fabric to pull.
5.) On the day
When the big day arrives, enjoy the build up! Make sure to put your camera and phone on charge during the morning so you can get plenty of pictures. Be early to any appointments you have made that way they won’t have to rush your hair or nails. Keep your bag contents minimal, only the essentials should be in there. You’ll need your phone, camera, lip gloss, money, and plasters just so your prepared if your shoes rub. Give yourself plenty of time to get into your outfit - especially if it’s a lace up back. Make sure you set aside plenty of time for prom photos with your family. Last but not least, SMILE and have a great time!!!!
