Top Minx Tips for Prom Dress Shopping

1.    Like evening wear, prom dresses are generally cut smaller than your normal high street size, so look at the next size up to what you would usually wear, it will probably increase your choice of styles too.

2.    Stay open minded. It is worth trying lots of different styles and colours, you may love a dress you never thought you'd wear.
3.    Many dresses lack 'hanger appeal' so don't be put off trying a dress on just because you don't like the way it hangs on the rail.
4.    Listen to the opinions of relatives and friends as to what styles and colours look good on you. Just because you like a gown in a magazine doesn't mean it will look right on you, remember many images are air-brushed.
5.    Let the Minx sales person's help you try on the dresses, they are normally quicker with zips, lacing etc. This will save you time.

6.    Listen to the Minx sales person's ideas, they know which body type the dresses look good on. They also know which styles are right 'on trend' and which styles have a great fit.

7.    And this is an important point. There is always the danger that someone else turns up to the prom in the same dress as you. This is particularly true if you shop at the high street stores. At Minx we take a note of all dresses we sell and guarantee we will not sell the same piece to your prom. Would Monsoon, Debenhams or TK Maxx do the same?
8.    Start shopping in January when the selection of prom dresses is largest. Buy your dress a couple of months before your prom in order to allow plenty of time for alterations.
9.    Almost every prom dress will need some alterations for a perfect fit. Always buy your prom shoes before alteration so the dress can be hemmed to the correct length.
10.  Consider buying your accessories and shoes at the same time you buy your dress. You'll be able to try out the complete look before you buy.
